Hon. (Prince) Dapo Adeyemi

(Mr. Speaker Sir)

The second issue, which has to do with my Constituency, is a passionate appeal which I want to make to the Bureau of Special Duties and Rural Development, and maybe the Ministry of Works. The appeal has to do with the rural electrification project in Ososun town. I do not know whether the House Committee on Works could visit the place and see how  public funds is being wasted.

The project was supposed to have been completed around 1967/68 when the Federal Government decided to electrify that place. The State Government came in sometime in 1990 with a belief that it can do something. By 1999, the State Government went there with the belief that the project from NRC Secretariat up to Ososun township had been electrified. The State Government now wanted to electrify from Ososun to Ebiti which is just a distance of about three kilometers but when they got there, they discovered that the project at Ososun which was supposed to have been completed as far back as 1967 has not been completed up till today.

The transformer is also there still there till today. The people that have been tampering with NEPA properties had removed the cables from NRC up to the junction of Ososun. The community people were able to recover some. If one gets there today, one would see the cable. The transformer has been there for almost 10 years and is still there till today. The thing is wasting away. The community that assisted has done their own bit by erecting poles and by bringing the light to the community.

I want to appeal to the Bureau of Special Duties and Rural Development to visit the place and let us know what is going to cost to complete the project. We have to think of successes of the Executive Governor even though it is going to be very minimal. It will not be appropriate if we do not do it now and we allow those things to continue o rust away. We even learnt that all the insulators had been carted away, we only have the high tension wires. I want to appeal once again to the Bureau of Special Duties and Rural Development to visit the place. I also want to appeal to Mr. Speaker to, maybe, give directive to the Ministry of Works to visit the place and come up with a report on the project.

Thank you.
