Hon. (Prince) Dapo Adeyemi

Mr. Speaker, Sir, I want to make a passionate appeal to the Executive Governor of Ogun State, the Commissioner of Works and the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Rural Development and Special Duties.

This appeal is in connection with the road in Ijoko Police Station to Olayemi in Isokun Ward, which is part om my constituency. One needs to ply this road to know the gravity of what we are talking about. The rain  would be coming anytime from now. I was forced by the villagers to ply the road from Ijoko to Olayemi. I had to beg them seriously before they allowed me to use my Nissan Patrol; they wanted me to use my Mercedes Benz, but at the end of it all, I have to thank my stars because I am sure that vehicle would not have come back. The road links nothing less than eighteen to twenty villages and from time immemorial, they had been progressive and following our party, whichever party is controlled by "Afenifere".

Infact, of of the First Republic Senators, Senator Kunle Oyero is from Oyero village, along that road and I feel if only in honour of that distinguished Senator who contributed immensely when he was Senator in the first Republic, that road should be rehabilitated. I want to appeal seriously to the Governor and his two agencies, especially the Bureau for Rural Development and Special Duties to urgently see to that road. If they cannot tar it immediately, it needs serious rehabilitation. There are certain sections of the road that , within the next three months, if care is not taken, will just cut off. One will just discover that about 18 villages could be cut off; there would be no way they could get to Ijoko Railway station, not to talk of even coming to town.

Once again, I want to mention Ijoko to Akute road. On about three or four occasions last year between October and December, I cried on the Floor of this House on that section of the road to be rehabilitated; it was part of the one that was included in the year 2000 budget. I believe the fund was not forthcoming then, but I still want to appeal. It is a State road and anybody who plies that road would discover that there is a bridge we call Adiyan bridge, linking Oke Aro to the Akute end of the road. I am sure by the time the rain comes in, a jeep would not be able to pass through the road.

Therefore, i want to appeal seriously to the Executive Governor. We appreciate all that he did for that area in the last year's budget. We are now in March, the rain would come anytime from now. I want to appeal that they should try as much as possible to do something on those two roads.
